Pesto Pizza

It has been a while since my last post because I haven't really done much with my garden in this cold months.  The other week I did use some pesto I had frozen a couple of months ago.  In an earlier post, I showed how I had made pesto out of the Basil in my garden.

The pesto made a very tasty pizza!  My sister Caroline and I made a chicken pesto and a sausage pesto pizza.  After shaping the dough we covered it with pesto.  (I love the dark green color..and it smelled awesome!)

I also went a step further with the chicken pizza and tossed the chicken in pesto before placing it on the pizza.  These pizzas were so east to make.  They only took four ingredients.  Pizza dough, which was a Pilsbury dough, chicken or sausage, pesto, and mozzarella cheese.  The whole meal only took about 30 minutes.  I love using ingredients from my storage created from last years crop.

The jury is still out on which pizza was the best...sausage, or chicken.

In a couple of weeks I will start some of my seeds.  Last year I started them in January and that was way to early for the small set up that I have.  I learned a lot and hopefully I will be more successful this year.  At the beginning of March I will buy some topsoil......my compost wont be ready until this fall.

Since it can get pretty warm here during the day but stays freezing at night, I am hoping I will be able to leave a lot of my seed starts outside during the day in order to harden them off and then bring them inside during bad weather and at night.

Next week I will be buying some soil for my seeds and setting up some pots so I am ready for my first seeds in two weeks which will be Kale and Eggplant.

I already have my garlic in the ground, and I have noticed some shoots.  I hope I am more successful with my garlic this year.  Last year I started them in the spring and they really didn't have a chance to grow much.

I still haven't built a cold-frame.  I decided I would tackle that task later in order to not overwhelm myself.  I will keep everyone up dated on my seeds!
